Air Fryer Apple Hand Pies

Air fryer apple hand pies are super simple to make and ready in minutes! They’re made with honey crisp and granny smith apples so the flavor is unbeatable!

Ingredients

  • 1 honey crisp apple, peeled and finely chopped
  • 2 small Granny Smith apples, peeled and finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp. Lemon Juice
  • 1 tbsp. Cinnamon
  • ⅛ tsp. Nutmeg
  • ¼ c. Brown Sugar
  • ¼ c. Granulated Sugar
  • ½ tsp. Vanilla
  • pinch salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 store-bought Double Pie Crust, or two single pie crusts

Instructions

  1. Peel, core, and finely chop apples. Place in a medium bowl.
  2. Sprinkle apples with lemon juice.
  3. Sprinkle sugars and spices and vanilla over apples and mix to combine.
  4. Allow to sit for at least 10 minutes.
  5. Remove pie shells from freezer and allow to come to room temperature.
  6. Use a rolling pin to slightly flatten and use an apple shaped cookie cutter to cut out 12 shapes total from both shells.
  7. You may need to re-roll pastry to get the 12 pieces. Preheat air fryer for 5 minutes at 400˚F.
  8. Fill pastry with 1 tbsp. of apple filling.
  9. Cover with another pastry and flute edges with a fork.
  10. Make 3 slits in the center of pies with a sharp knife.
  11. Make a quick egg wash by beating the egg with one tablespoon of water.
  12. Brush pies with beaten egg wash.
  13. Once you have 6 pies prepared you can place them in the preheated air fryer and cook for 10 minutes at 350˚F.
  14. Continue filling and fluting remaining hand pies, brush with egg wash and then cook for 10 minutes at 350˚F.
  15. Enjoy warm or even at room temperature! Goes great with vanilla bean ice cream too!
